Review of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour
Rating: 9 out of 10 stars
We are all Swifties!
Kaleidoscope’s latest review is on Taylor Swift Productions release of Taylor Swift’s: The Eras Tour. Directed by Sam Wrench, the film stars, of course, Taylor Swift, and her band, back-up singers, & dancers. Rated PG-13, the film has a running time of 2 hrs., 49 min.
When talks with the major studios, Warner Bros., etc., collapsed, Swift went out & struck a distribution deal with both AMC & Cinemark theaters who handled the process for theirs & all other theater chains. Filming took place in August at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Swift also garnered the cooperation of SAG-AFTRA to allow filming during its strike. Additionally, her choice of a release date of Oct. 13th caused Universal to move the release date for The Exorcist: Believer up a week to Oct. 6th. The ‘power’ of Taylor.
The film encompasses 10 ‘eras’ of her ten studio albums & recording career with many of the songs reflecting ‘Taylor’s Version’. Whether one is a ‘Swifty’ or not, the power of her voice & the theatricality of most of her songs renders a powerful cinematic experience that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Furthermore, Swift has provided an experience that is a model of exclusion and loyalty. The members of her band, dancers, & back-up vocalists display a range of ages, colors, shapes, & sizes that can be a template for us all! Her audience contact & sincerity of gestures, smiles, & other mannerisms made the performance feel more intimate than thought possible. I found myself singing, tapping, & smiling throughout the run time that seemed shorter than it was.
I give Taylor Swift’s: The Eras Tour 9 out of 9 nuggets. This is a powerful, fun, & exciting cinematic & musical experience that should be experienced by all—whether they are Taylor Swift fans or not.
